Michael Burleigh will be exploring the moral sentiments of both individuals and entire societies in the grip of total war, and will discuss both what led some to enthusiastically embrace evil while others rejected it, and the range of more ambiguous responses in between.

Michael Burleigh has written a number of works about the Nazi state, not least his magisterial Moral Combat, in which he investigates the profound ethical implications of the crucial decisions that shaped the twentieth century’s defining conflict.
