Questions of Travel: William Morris in Iceland

This event has already taken place.

Host: The William Morris Society
Location: The Coach House, Kelmscott House, 26 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London W6 9TA
Speaker: Lavinia Greenlaw

William Morris described Iceland as ‘that most romantic of all deserts,’ journeying there in 1871 and 1873 to escape domestic difficulties. Lavinia Greenlaw will explore our conflicted reasons for not staying at home, by following the footprints of Morris’s prose from his Icelandic Journal and interposing her own ‘questions of travel’.

Lavinia Greenlaw is a poet and writer of fiction and non-fiction. She has held residencies at the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Society of Medicine, is on the Council of the Royal Society of Literature, and is a former Chair of the Poetry Society.
