Asa Briggs was a Bletchley Park code-breaker and went on to become one of the most eminent and influential historians of our time. In his memoir Special Relationships, he talks about his time in ‘Hut Six’ as a cryptographer; explores his Yorkshire roots; recalls his student days at Cambridge; and considers broadly how places figure as much as people in shaping one’s life.

Asa Briggs commands huge respect for his intellect and his extraordinary life. Piers Brendon, fellow of  Churchill College Cambridge and author of the recently published Eminent Elizabethans, interviews.
