The Genius of William Morris

This event has already taken place.

Host: The Idler Academy
Location: 81 Westbourne Park Road, London W2 5QH
Speaker: Ralph Blumenau

William Morris (1834 to 1896) was a many-sided Romantic genius, working indefatigably as an artist, a poet, an essayist, novelist and journalist, a craftsman in many media from furniture to book production, a passionate advocate of the dignity of labour, an enemy of the capitalist market in all its manifestations, an eloquent socialist activist, and a lovely human being who could in many ways be described as a patron saint of the Idler Academy. Learn about his fascinating life and beautiful work, and be inspired to live well.

Ralph Blumenau, who has been described by The Independent as “a star lecturer” at the University of the Third Age in London, joins our roster of speakers with this talk on William Morris. He was Head of History at Malvern College until his retirement in 1985.
