Host: Lancaster Litfest
Location: The Storey Creative Industries Centre
Speaker: Dr Penny Bradshaw
In 1807 the critic and reviewer, Francis Jeffrey, wrote of ‘a brotherhood of poets, who have haunted for some years about the Lakes of Cumberland’, and eleven years later Lord Byron launched a biting satirical attack on the three main members of the ‘brotherhood’ (William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey). Despite significant differences in their responses to the region, the ‘Lake Poets’ continues to be used as collective title for these three Romantic poets.
This event will focus on poetry by Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey which relates to their affiliation with the Lake District.More Information
