Our Story

Notting Hill Editions is an independent British publisher founded by Tom Kremer (1930–2017), a champion of innovation and the man responsible for popularising the Rubik’s Cube.

Our authors include Margaret Atwood, John Berger, Julian Barnes, Ian Nairn, Robert McCrum, Thomas Bernhard, Gyles Brandreth, Lavinia Greenlaw, Deborah Levy, Adam Mars-Jones, Emily Rapp Black, Richard Sennett and Tracey Ullman to name only a few.

Tom Kremer,
Founder

After a successful business career in toy invention Tom decided, at the age of eighty, to engage his passion for literature. In a digital world where time is short and books are throwaway, Tom’s aim was to revive the art of the essay and to produce exceptionally beautiful books that would be cherished.

Hailed as ‘the shape of things to come’, the family-run press brings to print the most surprising thinkers of past and present.

In an era of information-overload, these collectible pocket-sized books distil ideas that linger in the mind.

Kim Kremer,
Managing Director

I joined NHE in 2014 and worked with my father, Tom Kremer, until his death in 2017.

We value quality over quantity, publishing only around six titles a year. In a world of overwhelming choice, our aim is to curate a library of fine writing and original thinkers, published in elegant editions.

The books are brief enough to be read over a few evenings, but the ideas are timeless.

NHE books start conversations and inspire new ways of thinking about the world.
Rosalind Porter,
Publisher

My publishing career began in Canada at a small independent press and, since moving to the UK in 2000, I’ve worked as an editor at Random House, Oneworld and at Granta magazine, where I was Deputy Editor.

I have edited two anthologies, reviewed many books, and judged a number of literary prizes.

I joined NHE as Publisher in March 2021.

As NHE books show time and again, there is nothing that the form of the ‘essay’ can’t do.
Deborah Pike,
Business Manager

I joined NHE in 2018 as Business Manager.

My experience is in Business and Customer Service Management with British and International companies.

Notting Hill Editions is a special company to work for.

Our books are beautiful, unique, collector’s items that give food for thought when the last page has turned.

NHE books are of their time, but equally timeless. They take the reader on a journey that leaves them reflecting for days.
Vera Sugar,
Digital Sales & Marketing Executive

Before 2023, when I joined NHE as Digital Sales & Marketing Executive, I worked in a variety of marketing, copywriting and magazine editing roles, including at Jessica Kingsley Publishers and HarperCollins UK. I was a winner of the Print Futures Awards in 2019 and was shortlisted for the LBF Trailblazers Awards in 2020.

I find myself happiest when working in close proximity to books, and especially when they are as carefully crafted – inside and out – as those of NHE.

NHE books are little gems that delight and inspire at the same time.
Emma O’Bryen,
Publicist

My publishing career began at Sidgwick & Jackson, working in the courtyard of the Hawksmoor church in Bloomsbury Way.  I began working as a freelance publicist in my late twenties and have worked for many different publishers on a varied cast of books, including Richard Mabey’s Flora Britannica (Sinclair-Stevenson), Naomi Wolf’s The Beauty Myth (Chatto & Windus) and Jonathan Bate’s The RSC Shakespeare – The Complete Works (Macmillan).

Current clients include New York Review Books on their UK list (since 2009), Pimpernel Press (since 2014), Bodleian Library Publishing (since 2017), and I’m delighted to now be working with Notting Hill Editions.

NHE publishes beautiful books for the curious reader – a joy to the hand and to the eye.
